Tip: Make use of the powerful Repeats popover

  1. The Repeats popover can create many different types of repeat-related notations. Open it by pressing Shift+R, then enter any of the following:
  2. Enter end to add a first and second time ending structure. Enter add to add additional endings.
  3. Enter / or // or /// etc. to add different numbered tremolos to notes.
  4. Enter z to add z on stems.
  5. Enter slash to create a slash region.
  6. Enter %, %2, or %4 to create bar repeats.

Tip: Hide playing techniques

  1. Hiding playing technique can be useful when they are needed for playback, but don’t want to see them in the score.
  2. Select the playing technique, then open the Properties panel and enable the Hidden property.
  3. By default, Dorico will show a signpost, so that you know the hidden item does exist. It also allows you to select it in the future.
  4. If you don’t want to see signposts in your score you can switch them off via the View > Signposts menu. There are options to show or hide certain types of signposts, or all of them.

Tip: How to add a dynamic in the middle of a tied note

  1. Usually adding a dynamic (while not in Note Input) is as simple as selecting a note at the point you would like the dynamic and choosing it from the dynamics panel, or using the Shift+D popover.
  2. However, when the position you need the dynamic to be input is midway through a tied note, there may not be a suitable item to select.
  3. Instead, enter Note Input so the caret is showing and advance the caret to the desired position.
  4. Now you can enter your dynamic and it will appear at the caret position.

Tip: Use chord mode to merge music when pasting

  1. Make a selection and choose Edit > Copy or press Ctrl/Cmd+C.
  2. Engage Chord mode by clicking the button in the toolbox or using the key command Q.
  3. Make a selection at the point where you would like to paste your copied music.
  4. Choose Edit > Paste or use the key command Ctrl/Cmd+V.
  5. The pasted music will not overwrite any existing music, but rather merge it into the same voice.
  6. There are also Paste special commands for pasting into new voices.
