Tip: Change the size of a player’s staff to any scale value
- Make a selection on the staff whose size you wish to change.
- Go to Edit > Staff Size > Custom Staff Size.
- Now choose one of the preset rastral sizes commonly used in music engraving, or your own custom scale factor, and press OK.
- You can also access the same menu by right-clicking on the score canvas.
Tip: Use Insert mode when adding time signatures to avoid irregular bars
- This is a useful tip for when you are inputting a time signature in the middle of some music, at a point before an existing time signature.
- Before inputting the new time signature, enable Insert mode by clicking the button in the Notes toolbar or by using the key command I.
- Now when you input your time signature, Dorico will automatically insert time to ensure the last bar before the existing time signature is complete.
- Of course, Dorico allows incomplete bars, so if you don’t want to automatically pad out that final bar before the next time signature, do not engage Insert mode. Instead, let Dorico rewrite the music up to the time time signature and then, if required, add another time signature to match the number of beats.
Tip: Copied dynamics pasted at the same position are linked back to the original item
- Select one or more dynamics and copy.
- Paste the dynamics to another staff at the same rhythmic position and Dorico will automatically link them.
- When you select a dynamic, any linked dynamics are shown in blue.
- Now when you edit one of the dynamics, any linked dynamics are updated to match.
Tip: Quickly adapt existing music using Lock to Duration
- Enable note input at the start of the passage you wish to rewrite using the same note durations.
- Click the Lock to Duration button in the Notes toolbox, or use the key command L.
- Dorico will lock the position and durations of the existing notes making it very quick and easy to re-input your music with different pitches.
Tip: Use indexed tokens to insert titles of specific flows
- Tokens can be flow-specific. Simply add the flow index number directly after the word flow in the token, e.g. {@flow2Title@}.
- The flow index number can be found at the bottom-right corner of the flow card in the Flows panel.
