Tip: How to erase the background of dynamics
- Select the dynamic, playing technique or text item.
- Switch to Engrave mode.
- Open the Properties panel at the bottom of the window (you can use the key command Ctrl/Cmd+8).
- Enable the Erase background property.
- You will also find Erasure padding properties for controlling the extent of the erased background.
Tip: How to add a dynamic in the middle of a tied note
- Usually adding a dynamic (while not in Note Input) is as simple as selecting a note at the point you would like the dynamic and choosing it from the dynamics panel, or using the Shift+D popover.
- However, when the position you need the dynamic to be input is midway through a tied note, there may not be a suitable item to select.
- Instead, enter Note Input so the caret is showing and advance the caret to the desired position.
- Now you can enter your dynamic and it will appear at the caret position.
Tip: How to add retakes to pedal lines
- Input a pedal line.
- Select a note at the rhythmic position that would like the pedal retake to occur.
- Type Shift+P to open the playing techniques popover.
- Enter ^ into the popover to create the retake.
Tip: Use chord mode to merge music when pasting
- Make a selection and choose Edit > Copy or press Ctrl/Cmd+C.
- Engage Chord mode by clicking the button in the toolbox or using the key command Q.
- Make a selection at the point where you would like to paste your copied music.
- Choose Edit > Paste or use the key command Ctrl/Cmd+V.
- The pasted music will not overwrite any existing music, but rather merge it into the same voice.
- There are also Paste special commands for pasting into new voices.
Tip: Delete tuplet brackets to unscale notes
- Delete a tuplet number or bracket to leave the notes behind, unscaling them.
- Remember to engage Insert mode if you want to push out any existing subsequent music.
