We at Steinberg are proud to support the work of Sound and Music and the Purcell School. Sound and Music is the UK’s national charity for music, and works to promote new music and new composers around the whole country. The Purcell School is Britain’s oldest specialist music school. Sound and Music and the Purcell School have been working closely together for many years, and each summer, the Sound and Music Summer School, at the Purcell School, offers young people aged 14-18 the chance to work on their own music with professional musicians and composers. If you are in this age group yourself or know a young composer who might benefit from attending the summer school, please read on.

Date: 2-8 August 2020

Venue: The Purcell School of Music

What is it?

The Sound and Music Summer School is a week-long residential course that gives you the opportunity to explore and develop your musical creativity. Whether you’re into songwriting or jazz, film music or classical, this is your chance to take things to the next level. Be inspired by professional composers, musicians and your peers; experience new areas of musical creation from composing for moving image to writing for the voice and expand the limits of your imagination.

How does it work?

During the residential course, you’ll be able to work in your own style of music-making, whilst also working with other composers and musicians to explore new and different ways of making music. At the end of the week, your new piece of music will be performed by professional musicians and you’ll receive a recording of the piece of work you have created!

Who is it for?

Sound and Music Summer School is for young composers and creative musicians aged 14-18. You need to be a UK resident or a UK citizen living overseas. As this is such a unique week, we may give priority to people who haven’t been before over those who have attended two previous Summer Schools.

Where, when, how much?

Join Sound and Music at The Purcell School, a specialist music school which is the perfect environment for a week of creativity. The week takes place from the 2 – 8 August 2020.  Attending the Summer School costs £500, which includes all tutoring, accommodation, food and activities!
