- During note input, press ; to open the tuplet popover.
- Type the ratio, followed by the shorthand for the unit (separate by a space).
- The unit can be written as a letter: generally the first letter of the duration value (e.g. q = quarter note, e = eighth note, x = sixteenth note and so on).
- Or you can use the number that corresponds to Dorico’s default key command (e.g. 6 = quarter note, 7 = half note, 8 = whole note and so on).
The end of this confuses me. “This can be used instead of selecting the tuplet unit before invoking the popover.” Could you explain that, please?
@John: What it means is that normally you have to choose the tuplet unit in the notes panel before you create the tuplet, e.g. if you want to create a triplet of three quarter notes in the time of two, you first have to select the quarter note in the panel or type 6, then invoke the tuplet popover and type 3:2 into the popover, even if you want the first actual note inside the triplet to be, say, an eighth. With this method, you can be in the middle of inputting eighth notes, then without first selecting a quarter note on the panel you can type 3:2q into the tuplet popover, which will create a quarter note triplet but still allow you to keep inputting eighths.
