We’ve today released Dorico 6.0.10, the first maintenance release for Dorico 6. It includes more than 50 fixes for issues reported in Dorico 6.0, and also introduces a few modest improvements of its own. Read on for more details!
Improvements and fixes
Here are a few selected highlights of new options and changes in Dorico 6.0.10:
- You can quickly change the displayed units of measurement for the new Engrave mode rulers by double-clicking the label showing the current unit where the rulers meet.
- The graph showing the effect of the dynamic power curve on the Dynamics page of Playback Options now updates in real time, and makes it much easier to visualise how dynamics respond to changes in those values.
- It’s now much easier to create barres in chord diagrams, as restrictions on fingerings have been relaxed.
- There are new engraving options for the gap between arpeggio signs and accidentals to their right, the precise placement of the end of octave lines relative to rhythm dots, the appearance of the continuation sign for a pedal line continuing on a new system, and the placement of alternative fingerings.
- In Notation Options, you can now specify that the first bar of the flow should start with a double barline, which is a convention carried over from some hand-copied music.
- You can hold Shift and double-click a note to select all following notes of that pitch in the current flow (this will be familiar to many Cubase users).
We’ve also worked hard to fix as many problems that have cropped up in the first few weeks following Dorico 6’s release in this update, and there are more than 50 fixes included. There are still some further issues left for us to solve, and further updates will follow as soon as possible. In the meantime, we hope you will find the stability and quality of the software improved significantly with the release of Dorico 6.0.10.
If you’ve been unsure about buying the update from Dorico 5 to Dorico 6 because you prefer to wait for any teething problems to be resolved, now’s the time to jump in.
Updated Version History
As always, you can find comprehensive details of the changes in Dorico 6.0.10 in the updated Dorico 6 Version History PDF.
Installing the update
Dorico 6.0.10 is a free update for existing Dorico Pro 6, Dorico Elements 6 and Dorico SE 6 users. If you are currently running Dorico Pro 5 or Dorico Elements 5 or earlier, you can buy an update to Dorico Pro 6 or Dorico Elements 6 from the Steinberg online shop.
Assuming you already have Dorico 6 installed, you can update to Dorico 6.0.10 free of charge. First, quit Dorico and any other Steinberg application that you are running on your computer. We recommend that you run Steinberg Download Assistant, which will automatically update Steinberg Activation Manager to the latest version, along with any other elements of the Steinberg run-time environment (including Steinberg Library Manager, MediaBay, and on Windows the Steinberg Built-in ASIO Driver) that may be outdated on your computer.
Once Steinberg Download Manager has finished updating any required components, go to My Product Downloads in the left-hand list, where you will find Dorico Pro 6, Dorico Elements 6, or Dorico SE 6, depending on which product you have installed. Select this, and on the right-hand side you will see Dorico 6.0.10 Application Installer. Click the Install button immediately to the right. This will download and run the Dorico 6.0.10 installer.
If for any reason you cannot use Steinberg Download Assistant, you can find all the installers you require here.
If you already have Dorico for iPad installed, it will probably update automatically, but if you need to update it manually, you can do so following these steps provided by Apple.
What’s next
We are continuing to work on fixes and improvements for Dorico 6, and you can expect another update in the next few weeks. A new update to Cubase 14 bringing further improvements to the new Dorico-powered Score Editor is also coming soon.
I purchased Dorico Pro 5 on Mar 18, 2025. Am I eligible for a free upgrade to Dorico Pro 6?
Hi Dennis. Unfortunately, the grace period date was later than when you bought Dorico. We are likely to run discount offers during the life-cycle of Dorico 6 though.
I am a transplant from Finale, and currently have Dorico 5.1.81.2225 installed and activated. I saw the announcement of the update to Dorico 6.0.10 and attempted to run the Steinberg Download Assistant to process the new version. Download Assistant would not launch, but Steinberg Activation Manager does, and shows that Dorico 5 is activated. The error message from Download Assistant is: “A connection to the download server could not be established. Check your internet connection and try again.” Since Activation Manager runs as expected, I doubt if my internet connection is the problem here. What should I do next?
Sorry for the delay and that you received that message. Please fisrt download and install a new version of the Steinberg Download Assistant from http://www.steinberg.net/go
Thanks
I have been working on Finale all my life, but have now change to Dorico. It take some time to learn it, but it is getting better. I should wish that Dorico should make the possibility to print pdf to mail. If that could be made in Dorico I would be very happy. But all the other thing seem to be ok for me in Dorico.
You can create PDFs from Dorico in Print mode, but it doesn’t put the files straight into your email program – in many cases the score and parts might be too big for an email so it would be best to use an online option such as OneDrive/Dropbox/iCloud etc and email a link instead.
I currently have Dorico Pro 5 installed on two computers, since the one I use most is old and may die any time. The other computer is much newer and I use it primarily to edit 4K video. However, I have Dorico installed on both computers as was valid so I can work on either computer with Dorico. I would like to know if I can upgrade on both computer after purchasing one upgrade and, also, if the upgrade will remove the older version of Dorico from my computers. I’m asking in case I have problems initially using Dorico Pro 6 I will still have Dorico Pro 5 available on my computers.
Yes you can install and license Dorico on upto three computers for your use. If you buy the update you can therefore update both of your computers. You can also leave the Dorico 5 installation too, or reinstall that version again later if you ever needed to, but generally I don’t think you’ll need to so you can uninstall it after installing v6.
I transferred from Finale to DORICO. Do I have to pay for this update?
Sorry for the delay. Updating from v5 to v6 is a paid update. We hope you find the new features useful and worth the cost, but if not then you can wait until we add other new features that will hopefully be of interest.
I bought DORICO 5 PRO in September 2024.
I expected that DORICO PRO Users will be offered a discount for upgrading to DORICO 6 but the website is only offering full price Upgrades.
Is there another webpage for upgrading from PRO 5 to PRO 6 at a discount price?
We currently don’t have a discount for the update from v5 to v6, although we may have some at other times of the year.
What will be the price in South African Raand to update from Dorico Pro5 to Dorico 6.0.10?
You should be able to find the prices in your local currency on https://www.steinberg.net/dorico/ when you click on Buy and then Updates and Upgrades.
Is Dorico Pro 6 the same as Dorico 6?
Dorico 6 is available as a free SE version, Elements (mid-tier) or Pro. Comparison details are available here: https://www.steinberg.net/dorico/compare-editions/
There is also an version of Dorico for iPad.
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the awesome new 6.0… release. I love the new proofreading feature! So easy to use, too. One thing I can’t figure out is the end position of Pizzicato. It’s telling me: “End position of Pizzicato technique is not explicitly marked.” Any ideas on how to remedy this?
Thanks,
Brian
Can you give us an example on http://www.dorico.com/forum if this is still an issue please, Brian? (And sorry for the delay in replying!)
Podem me ajudar?
You’ll need to log in to your MakeMusic account to apply the discount for Dorico Pro – https://store.makemusic.com/Store/. Alternatively we have Dorico Elements, which does not have a limit on the number of players you can add to the project – https://www.steinberg.net/dorico/
